  • Winter Farmers Market will open November 5
    A winter farmers market in Boyne City will be a reality this year. Thanks to the support of the Boyne District Library, the Boyne City Farmers "Winter" Market will officially open Saturday, November 5th. Winter hours will be Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will be held in the red building next to the library. The library recently purchased the building for possible future expansion. It is estimated the space will allow for approximately 15 to 20 vendors to participate. The market will be held each Saturday in November and December with the exception of Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving weekend) and Dec. 24th. Two special markets are also planned. The first is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the second is Dec. 23. The market also plans to be open January through April but a schedule will not be set until mid to late December. NOTE: the regular outdoor Farmers Market will continue in Veterans Park from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Oct. 30.

  • LET’S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • FOOD FOR FINES
    Boyne District Library will once again offer its “Food for Fines” program in conjunction with Boyne Area Community Christmas. This month, overdue fines may be “paid” by Dec. 19 by bringing food and other donations for the community’s Christmas baskets to the library. Acceptable donations include non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys, books and clothing. The public is welcome to bring in new hats, mittens and gloves to help decorate the library’s Christmas tree. “This is a great time to save money on your overdues, and help your neighbors in need at the same time,” said library director Cliff Carey.   • TOYS FOR TOTS
    Summertree Residential Centers are kicking off their Toys for Tots drive at their offices at 210 N. Lake St. in Boyne City. They will start collecting toys Oct. 27 and are open from 8 a.m. to 4 pm.

  • Boyne Community Christmas
    The Boyne Area Community Christmas Baskets program is expecting that the need for assistance will be greater than ever this year. Non-perishable, unwrapped food, toys, games, books, clothing and blankets may be dropped off at the Early Childhood Education Center on Pine Street from now through Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Checks may be made payable to Boyne Area Community Christmas, c/o Treasurer Eleanor West, 915 Robinson St. #15, Boyne City 49712. Dec. 20 is the basket-packing day and those eligible for baskets may pick them up Dec. 20 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Early Childhood Center gym.   • FOOD PANTRY BENEFIT
    Red Mesa Grill will host the 14th Annual Judy Kuheana Memorial Breakfast Buffet benefiting Boyne Area food pantries from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Judy Kuheana was the founder of the 7th Day Adventist Food Pantry. She passed away in 1996. Admission ($8 adults, $4 children 12 and under) will be collected at the door with all sales going to Boyne area food pantries through the Manna Food Project. There is also an angel auction that begins Nov. 25 and concludes Dec. 3 at the breakfast.

  • "Carols in the Round"
    December’s Back Porch Coffeehouse is fast approaching! Saturday, December 10th at 7 p.m., we will hold our popular “Carols in the Round”. We will be back at our new location- the Charlevoix Senior Center building. The evening will be filled with songs of the season- traditional, contemporary and songs from around the world, played on a variety of instruments. In the past, we have been treated to music from guitar, banjo, harp, fiddle, flute, recorder, harmonica, ukulele, bass and a variety of percussion instruments. Family-friendly, all are invited to come in from the cold to enjoy a warm evening- come to sing, come to share, come to listen and remember.     Directions to the Senior Center building: From US-31 (Bridge St.), turn west on Carpenter St. (between the Pizza Hut and Flap Jack Shack). Travel .7 mile, turn left into parking area, or turn left on Norwood Rd. to park in front of the Senior Center. The facility is fully accessible.

  • CHRISTMAS CAROLS
    A group of Boyne City High School Drama students will be singing Christmas carols at Local Flavor book store from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Local Flavor is located at 125 Water St., phone 231.582.7499, email localflavor125@att.net.

  • Horton Creek Concert
    The popular local bluegrass band Horton Creek will play a Christmas show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Boyne City Performing Arts Center, located at Boyne City High School. Horton Creek describes itself as "A simple bluegrass band formed out of Charlevoix County, started as a one-gig get-together to fill a spot in a show and it went so well the clan decided to give it a run." Harmonica player Dan Cole will be joining the band for this concert. Randy Calcaterra will be doing visual production, Bob Harmeling has designed an awesome stage set, and once again Randy Nash will be mixing sound.   • 1st Presbyterian Church to host free Christmas dinner for all
    The 1st Presbyterian Church of Boyne City will continue its tradition of offering a free Christmas Dinner for anyone and everyone in the community from noon to 2 p.m. The church is located at 401 S. Park St. The church men’s club is organizing the event and cooking the traditional turkey dinner with all the fixin’s. The dinner is paid for by contributions from the congregation, the public and local grocery stores.
