  • It’s time to register for July 4th parade and running races
    The Boyne City 4th of July Festival features a giant parade at 10 a.m., evening fireworks plus a dozen other activities including the 34th Annual Waterside Arts and Crafts Show, 2-mile and 10k running races, a wacky raft race and duck race in the Boyne River, lots of food, plus children's games and a pie-eating contest. The festival is centered in Veterans Memorial Park on the shore of beautiful Lake Charlevoix. There will be live music in the park all day. Info and schedule: 231-582-6222 or www.boyne4thofjuly.com.

  • RUBBISH COLLECTION
    Pickups will take place in areas on and south of Main Street on Wednesdays, June 8 and 15. Fall pickups will be Sept. 7, 14 and 21. Areas north of Main Street will be picked up on Thursdays, June 9 and 16; plus Sept. 8, 15 and 22. For more information or program updates click here or call City Hall at 582-6597.

  • COMMUNITY CENTER BENEFIT EVENTS
    Boyne City Kiwanis will hold a benefit pancake breakfast for the Community Center from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, JUNE 11 at Boyne City High School. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6 to 12 and free for children under age 6.

  • MARDI GRAS IN JUNE
    The Boyne City Yacht Club will host the Mark Madness Regatta and Cajun Shrimp Boil for the benefit of Challenge Mountain’s Adaptive Sailing program on June 11 in Veterans Memorial Park in Boyne City. The event serves about 200 Cajun Shrimp Dinners and it is open to the public while reservations last.   • BAC STAGE CONCERT Series
    4 p.m. Sunday, June 12 with Holly Keller and Friend; admission is $5. On June 26, Bob Marshall performs for $10. Concerts are held the second and fourth Sunday of the month at the Boyne Arts Collective, 210 S.   • COMMUNITY CENTER BENEFIT EVENTS
    Cafe Sante will host a benefit dinner for the Boyne Country Community Center from 5 to 10 p.m.. All proceeds will be donated to benefit the community center, which recently purchased the former Masons building on North Lake Street as its new home. The Hand-Me-Downs and Nathan Bates will be entertaining. A $5 donation is suggested as a cover charge.

  • United Way Day of Action on June 21st Promotes Literacy
    Three-Year Education Initiative Launched

    Char-Em United Way will join organizations nation-wide in celebrating a Day of Action on the longest day of the year, June 21st. The event has special significance this year, as United Way Worldwide will launch an ambitious goal to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors to improve childhood literacy and education over the next three years. Today, fewer Americans are likely to earn a diploma than their parents, a distinction not shared by any other industrialized country.

  • Stroll the Streets
    Stroll the Streets fills downtown Boyne City with music and fun every summer Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. from June 24 through Labor Day weekend. 2011 will mark the eighth year for Stroll the Streets, which is organized by the Boyne City Main Street Program. Music ranges from traditional folk, bluegrass and jazz to rock. Special activities include magicians, caricature artists, face-painters and balloon-twisters. Performers on opening night, June 24, will be: Beer Bottle Blues Band, Harbor Hoe Down, Harry Colestock, June Bug . Kelly Beck.   • ATEN PLACE
    Opens its 2011 Summer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 with The Waymores. This group is a three-pack of Nashville’s finest singer-songwriters: Tom Kimmel, Sally Barris and Don Henry. All three have written songs for the stars and have garnered praise for their solo works. Tickets are $25 for two and $15 for singles. Tickets go on sale at 6:30 pm the day of the concert, with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. Aten Place is a non-profit endeavor, and no food or beverage is sold on the premises. Many patrons bring snacks and desserts to share at intermission. There is also a covered picnic pavilion for those who wish to come early and enjoy the grounds and peaceful setting.   • BOATING SAFETY
    Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division is holding free, four-hour boating safety classes at 9 a.m. June 25 at Walloon Lake Country Club, 2 p.m. June 28 at Sommerset Point Yacht Club in Boyne City, and 2 p.m. July 11 at the Jordan Valley District Library in East Jordan. These classes are required for 12-to-16-year-olds (and in some cases for their parents) to operate a boat or jet-ski.   • Evenings at the Gazebo
    The Boyne Area Chamber has announced the schedule for another summer of Evenings at the Gazebo concerts beginning June 29. Concerts continue at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Aug. 24 at Old City Park, located at the corner of Park and River Streets. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, but not your pets. This concert series is made possible by sponsors and in-park donations made on the night of each performance. The Chamber appreciates the ongoing organizing efforts of Cindy Kujawski.
