The Farmers Market opens for the season on May 4 and continues from 8 a.m. to noon every Wednesday and Saturday through October.
Charlevoix Area Hospital's next "Wellness Wednesday" will be from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. on May 4. Health screens include: Total Cholesterol, HDL, ratio, and Glucose levels, Body Mass Index (BMI) score, Fat Percentage, and a Blood Pressure reading. Participants will receive a blood pressure log and pedometer as well as all test results at the time of the screen. A Registered Nurse will adapt health consultation and educational materials to individual results. Cost for the service is $12. Appointments can be made in advance by calling (231) 547-8906. Walk-ins are welcome.

Boyne City’s annual community-wide spring clean-up, will be held Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The Boyne City Main Street Program, organizer of the event, is calling all residents, civic organizations and schools to lend their shovels, rakes, and brooms to give Boyne City a shine during the annual cleanup. Volunteers are asked to meet at Sunset Park in downtown Boyne City next to the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce to sign in, get instructions on what areas need to be cleaned, and receive trash bags and gloves. The city’s spring leaf pick-up program is ending. The final pick-ups will be Monday and Friday, May 9 and 13. Please set bagged leaves curbside in clearly marked biodegradable bags. If your bags have been out for an extended period of time and have not been collected, notify City Hall at 582-6597.

The Wine & Dine gourmet event features morel hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the Beach House restaurant. The Taste of Morels in the tent at Veterans Park will be held Saturday afternoon. Music under the tent includes Detroit young country band Annabelle Road at 8 p.m. Friday, the Emmy-Award-winning Bihlman Brothers rock band at 8 p.m. Saturday, and TNT and Northern Nites at 1 p.m. Sunday. Friends of the Boyne District Library are sponsoring an antique appraisal event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the library community room. The appraisals will be done by Joseph McGee, owner of Joseph’s World in Petoskey. The public is invited to bring up to three treasures (no diamonds or dolls) for appraisal at $10 per item; proceeds benefit library programs. Spectators are welcome to attend.

Crooked Tree Arts Center is pleased to announce the formation a new music education program, the Up North Vocal Institute, a summer vocal training institute. Founding director is international opera and theatre star Matthew Chellis, a Boyne City High School graduate. To support the inaugural season of the Up North Vocal Institute, Matthew Chellis will perform a benefit concert with accompanist Eric Carlson, one of the program’s collaborative artists at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Boyne City Performing Arts Center Chellis will sing a varied program with works by Mozart, Verdi, Faure, Schumann, Sondheim, and Bernstein among others. Joining Matthew will be UNVI student Kira Dills-DeSurra, soprano. Tickets are $20 per person and all proceeds go to benefit the UNVI summer festival. On Friday May 27 they are offering 50-cent ice cream cones and root beer floats from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to Boyne City Little League. The league has almost 400 children participating in its program wutg 35 teams of girls and boys playing baseball and softball. Children range in age from 5 to15 years. They participate in t-ball, coach pitch, minor league, major league or junior level of play. Funds will be used for improvement of fields, the purchase of new equipment and support of tournament play. League President Cindy Banner said, “We hope everyone can enjoy a day of ice cream and support all the children that participate in Boyne City Little League.” For further information contact Cindy at 582-9087 or 675-2447.

Benefit for Rex Judkins will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday May 28 at the Boyne City Eagles Hall. Donations will help pay for recent uncovered medical expenses at the Cleveland Clinic.
