  • LIBRARY ADVENTURE CLUB Kids ages 6-13 are invited to Boyne District Library for "Adventure Club" every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. in the Community Room. Upcoming adventures include visits from the National Weather Service on July 14 and Friends of the Boyne River on July 21.

  • FREE WOOD CHIPS
    Boyne City’s north Boyne compost site on Robinson Street has wood chips that are available free to the public. There is no limit on the quantity; however, you must make your own arrangements for loading and hauling. This does not include black dirt; wood chips only.

  • EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER GRANTS AWARDED
    Char-Em United Way and the Local Board of the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program recently completed distribution of over $44,073 in federal funds to support local food and shelter programs in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. United Way is the local administrator of the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP).

  • Evenings at the Gazebo
    Evenings at the Gazebo concerts continue Wednesday, Aug. 10 with a concert by the Petoskey Steel Drum Band. This concert is sponsored by the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau and Spicy Bob's Italian Express, who will be offering $1 slices of pizza plus soft drinks and ice cream. The weekly concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. in Old City Park at the corner of Park and River Streets. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket.   • FREE CLINIC
    The Boyne Area Free Clinic will be closed the next two Fridays, Aug. 12 and 19. Anyone needing medication refills should come in Aug. 6. The clinic will reopen Aug. 26.

  • Farmers Market
    On Saturday, Aug. 13, the Farmers Market will be moving downtown to the 100 and 200 blocks of Water Street, and the 100 block of Lake Street. Come experience this unique Market experience as we close off traffic and enjoy open air shopping. Fresh, local foods and products, live demonstrations, crafts, music, sidewalk sales from merchants and a view of beautiful Lake Charlevoix - it’s going to be a bountiful day!

  • LOL Saturdays at Boyne District Library
    Boyne Area youth ages 10 and up have a new option for their Saturday afternoons. Continuing through the school year, Boyne District Library will offer LOL (Love Our Library) Saturdays from 1-2 p.m. A variety of activities will be offered, depending on the interests of those attending, from crafts and Legos, to board games, Wii and graphic arts. Snacks will be available as well. No matter what the activity, fun will be the order of the day. “Come see all the fun things we have in store for you,” said Monica Kroondyk, youth librarian. “Together, we’ll decide what direction the group will take in the future.” For more information, contact Monica at (231) 582-7861.

  • "Stuff the Bus"
    Char-Em United Way will host the 4th annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ event on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the K-Mart Plazas in Petoskey and Charlevoix. Extra expenses for school are difficult for many in the current economy. Char-Em United Way is asking our community to collect and donate school supplies for local children.

  • ANTIQUE AUTOS & FLEA MARKET
    The 38th Annual Antique Auto Show and Flea Market is coming to Veterans Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14.     Michael Reno Harrell will close the concert season at Aten Place Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Harrell is an award-winning songwriter, as well as a veteran storyteller and entertainer, and he’s from the South - the Southern Appalachian Mountains to hone it a bit finer. Next weekend, Aug. 25-27, brings a production of "Escanaba in Love" an oddball comedy prequel to “Escanaba in da Moonlight”, both written by Jeff Daniels. It follows the lives of the elder snappy-but-loveable Soady family members (in the Upper Peninsula) through one cockamamie escapade after another.   • Norfolk Harvest Festival
    The Norfolk Harvest Festival is coming to Boyne City’s Veterans Park for this weekend with a portrayal of interactive living history ranging from the Medieval to Colonial periods, consisting of day-to-day living, as well as demonstrations with tents and structures depicting life in a new trading settlement. The public will be encouraged to interact with the reenactors, asking questions about their activities or demonstrations. The festival's goal is to present an aspect of history and family fun, meeting the goals of the Family of the Five Lakes: to enrich the lives of present and future generations through historical education.   • Afternoon ‘Stroll’ and Harley motorcycle parade
    The parading bikers will be Harleys, and there will be about 500 of them. There will be a special Saturday afternoon version of Stroll the Streets featuring Acoustic Stew, Hipps-N-Ricco, Harbor Hoedown, and The Kowalske Family. The four bands will be playing on the 100 and 200 blocks of Water Street and South Lake Street. Those blocks will be blocked to traffic to allow for motorcycle parking from 3 to 6 p.m.
