The roller skating season has started! Skating is every Saturday, except Christmas Day, from noon til 3 p.m. at The Harvest Barn Church. November 6th til April 2nd.
Raven Hill Discovery Center is again ready for visitors. Current renovations continue, but the original hands-on room and animal room are both open for business as usual. Hours are 12 pm to 4 pm on Saturdays and 2 pm to 4 pm on Sundays or by appointment. The Center will also be open the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, from 12 pm to 4 pm, as well as Saturday, November 27th and Sunday, November 28th.The official Grand Opening for the new Art Corridor and the Warren Loranger Great Room will be May 1, 2011 with more information to follow.

We are proud to offer our new cookbook, "May I Have Your Recipe?". This wonderful book features 615 tried-and-true recipes collected from Hospice patients, families, friends and staff. The book sells for $15 and is available at Busy Bridge, in East Jordan, at the Hospice office in Charlevoix, on-line at www.hospicenwm.org or by calling our office at 547-7659.
We also have holiday cards! This year we have 6 designs done by local artists. You can view them on the website, or at Busy Bridge in East Jordan.

The community of East Jordan kicks off the holiday season on Thursday, December 2 with the Annual Community Night. An entire evening of family activities with something for all ages to enjoy and capture the holiday spirit is being planned by the businesses , churches and organizations. Along with the traditional Santa Parade and Visit and the Annual Soup Cook-Off to benefit the Care and Share Food Pantry several new activities have been added to the evening's events. Starting at 5:00 PM the businesses will host open houses with special sales, refreshments and offerings, Girl Scout Troop #10364 will be having face painting along with homemade cookies and hot chocolate at Edward Jones Investments in the Main Street Center, The Bakery on Main Street will feature a Gingerbread House display, the Jordan River Arts Council will have their Members Art For Sale and also have a special make and take craft for children visiting with an adult. All of these activities will run from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
It all begins at 5pm with the Live Nativity at the Jordan Inn, 6:00 PM the Community Tree will be lit by the Citizen's of the Year as the Ecumenical Christmas Carolers sing a repertoire of songs there and throughout the downtown. Anyone interested in joining the carolers contact Pastor Rap Posnik at 536-2161 or show up at the Community Tree on the corner of Spring and Hammond Streets by 6:00 PM. The Annual Santa Parade will march down the street at 6:15 PM with Santa and friends to the Bandshell in Memorial Park to meet with children and hear gift wishes from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. This annual event is sponsored by the East Jordan Lioness and Lions Clubs. Each child receives a handmade stocking from Santa filled with goodies. The East Jordan Lions Club members will be selling trees in the parking lot next to Memorial Park throughout the evening and then at East Jordan True Value Hardware the rest of the season. The Annual Soup Cook-Off will be serving award winning soups from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM at the East Jordan Senior Center. All proceeds from the event benefit the East Jordan Care and Share Food Pantry. Suggested donation is $2.00 per vote. Many of the businesses will be offering specials that evening and throughout the month, so be sure to pick up a "Goodie Bag" full of coupons, etc. to catch all the deals and happenings at the Senior Center, Edward Jones, Jordan River Arts Council or at the bandshell. 6 pm - "Feast and Film: a Wild Game and Local Foods Potluck and Film Showing." At the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center, 5745 N. M-66, East Jordan. Potluck begins at 6pm, film at 7:15 with "The Great Dance: A Hunters Story." This rare film is a glimpse into the beautiful and spiritual life of the nomadic hunters of the Kalahari desert: the San Bushmen. It explores the importance of animals, the depth and meaning of tracking, and the relationship between the hunter and the hunted. 1 pm - 5 pm - Wildlife Tracking Workshop- Hunters, wildlife photographers, wildlife researchers, and outdoor enthusiasts all benefit from tracking knowledge. Join the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center for a study of animal tracks and trails, skulls, and feathers. We will be doing some indoor exercises as well as observing animal sign in the field.Cost is $5.00. Come rain or shine, and dress for the weather. The last day for Second Saturday Science in 2010 is December 11th from noon to 4 pm. Thanks to a grant awarded by the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, the Center will once again offer FREE ADMISSION and special science activities for families on the second Saturday of this month. The focus in December will be lasers. Learn a little bit about how lasers work and how to use them, compare them to white light and talk about safety with lasers.

New Years Eve Overnight. Register your kids for a fun overnight (6Pm - 9 AM Jan. 1, 2011) Registration is limited, so book your spaces soon by calling 231-536-3369. Cost is $100.00 per person for the overnight and includes meals, snacks & activities. (Ages 4 - 14)Holiday hours are from noon to 4 p.m. daily from Saturday, December 18th through Sunday, January 2nd, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Visitors can spend hours playing in the museum, hold or pet the animals and bring their winter gear to explore outdoor exhibits, if they choose. Guided trips out to Stonehenge in Raven Hill's Ancient World are available on request. Anyone interested in a guided snowshoe or cross-country ski adventure, should call ahead to book a time for their family or group. Indoors or out, the entire family will have great fun. The Center's annual Holiday Open House is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28th, so come play or stop by to help us celebrate our 20th holiday season with special holiday treats. Plan to treat yourself and your family to fun and exploration at Raven Hill Discovery Center at least once during this coming holiday season or book a class and make some special gifts to give or keep. Raven Hill Discovery Center is the only place in northern Lower Michigan where children and adults can link science, history & the arts with hands-on activities and explorations both indoors and outdoors.
