Return of the Rabbit Railroad! After hibernating all winter, the Castle Farms Rabbit Railroad, sister line to the Garden Railroad, returns with more tracks, more trains and more fun than ever! Watch the rabbit, ladybugs, bumblebees, butterflies and other creatures weave their way in and out of the hedge maze garden and Mushroom Village. With more than 16 trains, the Rabbit Railroad dares you to keep your eyes on all the creatures at once as they zip up, down and around the rails. The Rabbit Railroad is a part of the Castle Farms Garden Railroad, as well as the historic self-guided guided tour, so be sure to bring your friends, family and camera! Bergmann Center is very excited to announce the expansion of services by opening a new Resale Shop coming August 3, 2010. We are located on the north side of Charlevoix in the Industrial Park at 8888 Ance Road right around the corner from Bergmann Center. The new Resale Shop will provide training, volunteer opportunities and paid work to the individuals served by the center. We have a wonderful set up, and will be opened year around, expanding from our annual fall "Garage Sale". Bergmann Center Resale Shop will be in operation Tuesday - Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.A "Grand Opening Celebration" will take place at the Resale Shop on Ance Road on August 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the Charlevoix "AKtion Club selling hot dogs, chips, and a pop for $2.00. The celebration will continue August 27th & 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All sales during this time will be by donation rather than the marked price. We a ppreciate the great support and hope to see you there!! Presenting author Bryan Gruley 7 pm at the East Jordan Community Auditorium.
They found Gracie McBride hanging in the shoe tree at the edge of town.....so begins Bryan Gruley's sequel to Starvation Lake. The Hanging Tree, the second in a series of novels set in the fictional northern Michigan town of Starvation Lake is published by Touchstone and available wherever books are sold August 3rd.
Bryan's first novel, Starvation Lake, was nominated for an Edgar Award for Best First Novel and several other awards. Bryan brings three lifelong passions to these books: newspapers, hockey, and small towns. He learned to play hockey on backyard rinks in his native Detroit, and still plays in Chicago.
Since 1971, he has been going to his family cottage on Big Twin Lake, not far from the real Starvation Lake. His first newspaper job was with the Antrim County News in Bellaire. Today, he's the Chicago Bureau Chief of the Wall Street Journal. He wrote one of the page one stories on September 11, 2001 that won the Wall Street Journal a 2002 Pulitzer Prize.
Special guest host for the evening will be Doug Stanton, author of the New York Times bestseller "In Harm's Way: The sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis and the Extraordinary Story of a Band of U.S. Soldiers who Rode to Victory In Afghanistan. Horse Soldiers spent over 3 months on the New York Times bestseller list as well as other lists. It was chosen as a "Best Book of 2009" by Publisher's Weekly, Christian Science Monitor, Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Doug and Horse Soldiers were featured in over 150 national print and radio interviews and on the Today Show, Morning Joe, C-Span's Book TV and PBS affiliates. Horse Soldiers is in development with Jerry Bruckheimer to be made into a major motion picture.
This event is cosponsored by the Jordan Valley District Library and the Jordan River Arts Council. It is free to the public! After the book discussion, questions will be taken from the audience. McLean and Eakin will be at the event selling copies of both author's books with book signing available in the lobby area.

Charlevoix Area Hospital's next "Wellness Wednesday" will be from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010. The Wellness Wednesday Health Screens include: Total Cholesterol, HDL, ratio, and Glucose levels, Body Mass Index (BMI) score, Fat Percentage, and a Blood Pressure reading. No fasting required. However, if you are fasting an LDL and triglyceride reading can also be obtained. Cost for the service is $12. Participants will also receive a blood pressure log and pedometer as well as all test results at the time of the screen. A Registered Nurse will adapt health Consultation and educational materials to individual results.
