  • FARMERS MARKET
    The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors to the Red Barn next to the library on Park Street. For the third consecutive year, the winter market continues every Saturday at that location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April.
  • Boyne Community Christmas
    The Boyne Area Community Christmas program is now accepting donations. The organization has been putting together baskets of food, clothing and toys for the past 60 years. Organizer Ruth Witenski said she hopes to provide Christmas presents for 1,000 children this year. New clothes and toys are preferred, but gently used items are accepted. Non-perishable, unwrapped food, new toys and games, books, clothing, blankets and checks may be dropped off at the Early Childhood Education Center on Pine Street from now through Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Checks may be made payable to Boyne Area Community Christmas, c/o Treasurer Eleanor West, 915 Robinson St. #15, Boyne City 49712. Dec. 20 is the basket-packing day and those eligible for baskets may pick them up that day from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Early Childhood Center gym. Volunteers who would like to help pack baskets will be needed starting at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20.     Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors at 231 Water St, has been designated as a new drop-off site for the Community Christmas drive. Items may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. & Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., until Dec. 17. They are asking people to bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item from 5 to 8 p.m. the evening of the Santa Parade/Downtown Open Houses, Friday, Nov. 29. As a special thanks to the community, Coldwell Banker will be having Christmas caroling and a bonfire that night and will also be giving out holiday treats to children.

  • GARDEN CLUB WREATHS
    The Boyne Valley Garden Club has started taking orders for Christmas wreaths and garland. This is their biggest fund-raiser and the proceeds go to purchase flowers to beautify more than 15 Boyne City gardens. Warm your home or business this holiday season with the natural beauty and fragrance of balsam fir, white pine and cedar wreaths handcrafted by the Boyne Valley Garden Club. If you are not on the callers list, you may pick up an order form at the Chamber or Local Flavor, or call Alice Marshall at 582-6492.

  • LET'S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • SENIOR CENTER DINNERS
    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • THE GRAIN TRAIN has announced it will open its new Boyne City store on Dec. 3. The new market will open in the storefront in the Waters Building at 104 S. Park Street, formerly occupied by North Country Cycle Shop, which moved to Water Street.

  • Judy Kuheana Memorial Breakfast
    Red Mesa Grill will host the 17th Annual Judy Kuheana Memorial Breakfast benefiting Boyne Area food pantries from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Judy Kuheana was the founder of the Boyne Area Food Pantry. She was known to have an incredibly kind and generous heart to all those that knew her. She passed away in 1996, and in remembrance of her spirit, The Red Mesa Grill is donating all proceeds from the breakfast and silent auction to local food banks. The silent auction begins Nov. 25. Wreaths for the silent auction have all been decorated and donated by local businesses; they are located on the main table and throughout the restaurant. Judy loved angels and in turn was an angel to many. The angels in the silent auction have been donated by many people in memory of Judy's spirit. The more money raised means the more money that goes toward the needy in our area. So far, these breakfasts have raised well over $17,000. Admission ($9 adults, $5 children 12 and under) will be collected at the door.

  • HOLIDAY HOBBY CRAFT SHOW will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Boyne City High School. Admission is free and refreshments are available for this 35th annual event that raises funds for the Boyne City Booster Foundation.   • Boyne District Library
    SANTA VISIT - The library will host a special visit with Santa Claus on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are encouraged to come, and no registration is necessary. All children who attend will receive a book and have an opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa. The event is sponsored by Eta Nu.

  • Freshwater Art Gallery
    Freshwater is hosting an Illustrated Children's Book Signing and Reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Five authors and illustrators will be on hand: Glenn Wolff, Monica Farrier, Josh Skeel, Chris Weston and Simon Otto. There will be snacks for the kids and a wine and cheese reception for adults. The artists will providr black and white pages from their books for children of all ages to color. Books will be available to view, purchase and be signed. Freshwater is located at 217 S.   • Farmers Market
    The Boyne City Farmers Market continues its winter hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the red barn next to the Boyne District Library on Park Street. Santa Claus will visit the market at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 will arrive at 10:30 to hear Christmas wishes from children of all ages. Each time you spend $20 with one vendor, you are entered in the drawing for a Christmas Holiday Basket. Win a ham along with all the fixings for a great local meal. The drawing will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21.

  • Porch Music Event
    The December Back Porch Music Event will be feature Cal Manis! Cal is a “musician’s musician”- well-respected by other musicians because of his amazing talent on lead guitar. Cal learned his musical art literally at the feet of old-style blues musicians. Cal says “if you can play the blues on the guitar, you can play anything.” He enjoys sharing that philosophy with the audience by playing a variety of favorite tunes from a variety of genres from standards to rock and roll, country to Southern and Chicago-style blues. The featured performer will share music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Following the scheduled performer, we will have a “circle jam session”. Cal has generously offered that all donations at the door for this special evening of music will go toward the Back Porch food costs. As always, soups, coffee, cookies will be available at no additional charge. The Back Porch music events are held at the Charlevoix Senior Center Building. Remember, this is a Community Event~ for All Ages! Directions to the Charlevoix Senior Center: From US-31 (Bridge St.), turn west on Carpenter St. (between the Pizza Hut and Flap Jack Shack) to corner of Carpenter and Sheridan Streets.   • COOKIE WALK The Boyne City American Legion Auxiliary - Ernest Peterson Post 228 will host a "Cookie Walk" on Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Community Room of the Boyne District Library starting at 8 a.m. until the cookies are gone. If you don't enjoy baking or don't have time to bake for the holidays, come and check out our Cookie Walk. The Auxiliary will have a large selection of homemade cookies for your choosing. Fill a box (or two) with all one kind or mix them up with several of your favorites. Give them as gifts or tray them up for your gatherings. All proceeds will help the Auxiliary continue to support our Veterans and their families.

  • SANTA IN HORTON BAY Knowledgeable sources tell us that Santa will be at the Horton Bay United Methodist Church from 2 to 4 p.m. this Saturday. Kids of all ages and their parents are welcome to enjoy cookies and get their first photo free.

  • HORTON CREEK BAND will be playing their annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Performing Arts Center at Boyne City High School. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for students; tickets will be on sale soon at the Chamber and Country Now & Then/Up the Lazy River.

  • 1st Presbyterian Church will continue its tradition of offering a free Christmas Dinner for anyone and everyone in the community from noon to 2 p.m. The church is located at 401 S. Park St. The church fellowship group is organizing the event and cooking the traditional turkey dinner with all the fixin's. The dinner is paid for by contributions from the congregation, the public and local grocery stores. Anyone who would like to support the effort may call 582-7983.
