  • FARMERS MARKET
    The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors to the Red Barn next to the library on Park Street. For the third consecutive year, the winter market continues every Saturday at that location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April.
  • LET'S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • SENIOR CENTER DINNERS
    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • Boyne City leaf pick-up
    The City of Boyne City will pick up leaves Mondays and Fridays from Oct. 14 to Nov. 8. Please set bagged leaves curbside anytime after the first day of pick up, in clearly marked biodegradable paper bags. City crews will pick up bags as time allows. If your bags have been out for an extended period of time and have not been collected, notify City Hall at 582-6597. Biodegradable paper bags are available locally at Ace Hardware and Boyne Co-op or can be purchased from any other source. Please put only leaves in bags as the bags are not strong enough to hold sticks, sand or stones, and will tear upon lifting. Brush will not be picked up curbside, but may be brought to the North Boyne Compost Site. You may haul your own leaves, either bagged in biodegradable bags or unbagged, to the compost site on Robinson Street, open seven days a week.

  • BOYNE CITY FARMERS MARKET moves indoors to the Red Barn next to the library on Park Street. The winter market continues every Saturday at that location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April. The market is now holding a Poinsettia Fundraiser. Order your holiday plants from the market and support their Winter Facility Plans. There are two delivery dates to choose from prior to Thanksgiving, Christmas or both. You can order a red, white or pink poinsettia in 6-7-8 inch pots with 1,2 or 3 plants.   • BAKED POTATO LUNCHEON will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at St. Matthew Church, 1303 Boyne Ave. Lunch includes baked potato with all the fixings, hot dogs, chili, dessert and beverage. Take-outs available. Admission is by donation. Proceeds go to the St. Matthew Guild funeral fund.

  • Concord Academy
    7 p.m. at the school on Dietz Road in Boyne City. Several area businesses in Charlevoix, Emmet, and Antrim counties have donated goods and services to this event. There are also several handcrafted items made by Concord's art students and other local crafters. The auction has Solace Spa passes, Meijer and Glen's gift cards, as well as a two-night stay at the Inn at Bay Harbor. All proceeds will go to the purchase of a phone and intercom system, which will help improve school safety. This is a family event and admission is free.

  • Performing Arts Center
    Boyne City's free salute to Veterans and Armed Forces, "America Sings," will be held at 2 p.m. at Boyne City High School. Entertainers include Jake Slater's Tribute to Elvis, Andy Miller, Madison Fitzpatrick and others. Admission is free and doors open at 1:30 p.m. Organizers of the show include Gordon Lambie, Justin Weisler, Chris Faulknor, George Lasater, Deb Jason, Doug Shields, Oral Sutliff, Ron Freed and Mike Cain.

  • Charlevoix County History Preservation Society
    Annual Holiday Dinner and Program at Bella Vita restaurant on Monday, Nov. 11. Reservation deadline is Nov. 1. The program will be presented by CCHPS member Dr. George Colburn, Writer/Producer at Starbright Media Corporation. He will give us insight into his latest project, a 60-minute documentary, "Young Hemingway: Finding His Muse in Northern Michigan." The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails (cash bar) and appetizers; dinner begins at 6:30 with a choice of four entrees: Garlic and Rosemary Rubbed Pork Tenderloin, Chicken Piccata, Cedar Planked Salmon, or Prime Rib.   • Boyne Reads
    Critically acclaimed author Steve Luxenberg will come to Boyne City Wednesday, Nov. 13 as part of the biennial Great Michigan Read program. The Michigan Humanities Council has planned events all year throughout the state, with Luxenberg's visit in Boyne City as part of a 16-city author tour. Boyne District Library and Boyne City Public Schools are partnering with The Great Michigan Read by choosing Luxenberg's "Annie's Ghosts: a Journey Into a Family Secret" as the One Book, One Community - Boyne Reads 2013 selection. Luxenberg will meet with Boyne City High School students at an assembly during the school day, and with the community at an evening presentation at the high school Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. The evening presentation is followed by a dessert reception hosted by the high school Hospitality Class and a book signing hosted by Local Flavor Bookstore. "Annie's Ghosts" is part memoir, part detective story, and part history. Copies of the book are available at the library and at Local Flavor in downtown Boyne City, and copies of the e-book are available to borrow through the library's Overdrive system.   • Buck Pole Contest
    Boyne Co-op True Value will be holding its third annual Buck Pole Contest Nov. 15 and 16. Register by 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Co-op, 113 S. Park St., Boyne City. The registration fee is $20, and there will be more than $3,000 in prizes for the top two scores for men, women and youth plus the top overall score. Three shoulder mounts valued at $525 are being donated by Lasting Memories, Northwoods Taxidermy and Ultimate Wildlife Taxidermy. Judging will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16. The Co-op is donating 25% of the proceeds to local charities. Free hot dogs, chili and beverages will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 16.   • Turkey Trot
    The Kiwanis Club of Boyne City is organizing Boyne City's third annual Turkey Trot 5K race and 1-mile fun run/walk to be held at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. The race will begin and end at Veterans Park. Professional chip timing will be used for the first time this year, and awards will be given in various age groups.   • COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER
    The Boyne City Eagles will host their annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from noon to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at the Eagles Hall, 106 N. Lake St. The dinner is open to the public, and there is no charge. Dinner includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, vegetables and desserts. Anyone who needs a ride or would like to volunteer or donate food is asked to call the Eagles (in advance) at 231-582-6904.

  • Santa Parade and more
    Downtown Boyne City will transform itself into a holiday winter wonderland when it hosts the annual Holiday Open House and Santa Parade on Nov. 29, the Friday after Thanksgiving, from 5 to 9 p.m. To make it a true community celebration of the season, we are inviting everyone in the area to participate in the festivities - from businesses, organizations and churches with floats, to children dressed in their holiday finest, to businesses offering great shopping, refreshments and hospitality from 5 to 9 p.m. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and Santa will arrive on his sleigh and be joined by some of his elves and reindeer. Those participating in the parade must send in a parade registration form and will line up on East Main Street between East and Lake Streets starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade route will follow Lake Street from Main to Water streets through the heart of downtown. Santa will then be available to meet with all the young children on the Parkside Grill patio. In addition there will be hayrides, a chance to see reindeer up close, and refreshments for all of Santa's guests.   • Boyne District Library
    JOLLY GINGERBREAD - Boyne District Library will kick off the holiday season with a "Jolly Gingerbread" program on Saturday, Nov. 30, when children of all ages will have the opportunity to build their own unique gingerbread houses. There are two sessions at 1 and 3 p.m. Registration by Nov. 26 is required. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. This event is generously supported by the Dale Hardy Memorial Fund and by Glen's Markets.
