    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • SENIOR CENTER DINNERS
    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • RUBBISH PICKUP
    For residents living in the city of Boyne City, the city provides a rubbish pick-up twice a year for larger items that can not be disposed of with your household trash; such as mattresses, furniture and light construction debris. Pickups will be made in the early morning of June 5, 12 and 19 for residents of Main Street and south, and June 6, 13 and 20 for areas north of Main St.

  • HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
    Collection will be Saturday, June 8 at the Charlevoix County Road Commission building, in Boyne City. You must call (231) 582.6193 in advance to schedule a drop off appointment.

  • UNITED WE READ
    As a part of the “United We Read” initiative, Char-Em United Way will be coordinating a Read Day of Action on June 21, placing volunteers at select sites throughout Charlevoix and Emmet counties to read to children and promote literacy.

  • Stroll the Streets
    Music, fun and great times will fill the streets of downtown Boyne City again Friday as Stroll the Streets continues with 8 performers. The popular event organized by the Boyne City Main Street program runs from from 6 to 9 p.m. This week's musical performers are Harbor Hoe Down, Kirby Snively, the Kowalske Family Band, Mark Sanders Band, Ribo & The Flavanauts and Spectrum. Also entertaining will be caricature artist Debra Adamcik and balloon artist Twister Joe. For the full summer schedule visit www.strollthestreets.com.

  • Paula Poundstone
    Boyne Country Community Center is proud to present comedienne Paula Poundstone at the Boyne City Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Saturday. Net proceeds from this event will help purchase a $20,000 vertical wheelchair lift to make our two-story, yet-to-open Boyne Country Community Center building barrier free. Poundstone has been recognized as one of Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up performers of all time. Interview from News-Review. TICKETS can be purchased online at www.poundstone.net.   • SOBO Arts Festival
    The arts will be celebrated in Boyne City at the 4th annual SOBO Arts Festival. The festival kicks off on Friday, June 28, with the "SOBO Street Stroll" from 6-9 p.m., showcasing musical performances and business open houses, culminating with an outdoor concert featuring the 17-member Bay Area Big Band. On Saturday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) "SOBO by the Shore" festival activities move to nearby Peninsula Beach, a beautiful park with ample lawn and open space on the shore of Lake Charlevoix. Events for children, artist demonstrations and workshops blend with more than 40 artists on display in the juried art fair to create a true celebration of the arts. All festival activities are free of charge. It is a weekend event the entire family will enjoy.

  • Benefit Luncheon for Mike and Lynn Cummings
    A benefit luncheon for Mike and Lynn Cummings will be held at the Boyne City Eagles Lodge from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 30. Both Mike and Lynn are dealing with cancer; Mike recently served four years as a city commission for the City of Boyne City. A $5 suggested donation for lunch includes: hot dogs, salads, baked beans and desserts. There will be live music from The Kowalske Family Band and a silent auction. If you can't make it to the benefit and would like to help, you may leave a donation at Radio Shack or en vogue salon. If you would like to donate an item for the auction you may leave it at Ace Hardware by noon Saturday.
