    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • NIGHTMARE AT CHALLENGE MOUNTAIN is a haunted house experience every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 to 10 p.m. at 2205 Springbrook Road, Boyne Falls. Admission is $10 for adults and two children for $5.

  • Harvest Festival farmers market, music, crafts and funBoyne City Harvest Festival
    Boyne City will again celebrate its autumn bounty at the Harvest Festival Saturday, Oct. 5. The event brings music, crafts and fall produce to the downtown from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Portions of Water and Lake streets will be closed to traffic. The Farmers Market will move from Veterans Park to Water and Lake streets for the event. There will also be an arts and crafts show and folk art demonstrations. Kids games and free hayrides run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festival is sponsored by the Boyne City Main Street Program and the Boyne Area Chamber. More than 30 scarecrows will be displayed around downtown from Oct. 4 until Halloween. Cafe Sante is planning three days of Oktoberfest German music, food and drinks.   • Great Pumpkin Run
    Bring your dogs and comfortable shoes to the Great Pumpkin Run 5K held in Boyne City in conjunction with the Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5. Friendly, on-leash dogs are invited to this family walk/run event to support the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. Day-of-race registration starts at 7 a.m. in Sunset Park, behind the Boyne Area Chamber office. The race starts on Front Street and goes along the lake shore towards Advance and returns on the same route. Race t-shirts are available for the first 150 runners who register. Pre-registration is $20, day-of-race registration is $25, children's registration is $10. You can register by mail or in person at the Humane Society, 614 Beardsley St., Boyne City, MI 49712.   • TREE IDENTIFICATION HIKE
    Taylor Horton Creek Preserve, Pincherry Road, 10 a.m. to noon, sponsored by Little Traverse Conservancy. Mike Lynch will lead a hike through the newly expanded trails along the creek, exploring the forest with a closer eye. As we identify trees and their defining features, we will also inquire about the relationships trees have with their habitat, wildlife and climate.   • Performing Arts Center
    The Grand Northern Opry returns to the Boyne City High School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Performers include the Front Porch Pickers Traveling Band, The Harmelings, Finding Eden, the Dipsy Chicks, Kellly Shively and Norm Hausler, Luanne Reed, Jack Garringer, El Genius, Don Judd, Ruby John and Lee Cloyd.   • POLKA DANCE
    The Boyne Area Senior Center is sponsoring a Polka Dance with music provided by the Lucky Stars from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. Admission is free with a dish to pass, and a homemade pie sale will be held. The Senior Center is located at 411 Division St., phone 231-582-6682.

  • Boyne City leaf pick-up
    The City of Boyne City will pick up leaves Mondays and Fridays from Oct. 14 to Nov. 8. Please set bagged leaves curbside anytime after the first day of pick up, in clearly marked biodegradable paper bags. City crews will pick up bags as time allows. If your bags have been out for an extended period of time and have not been collected, notify City Hall at 582-6597. Biodegradable paper bags are available locally at Ace Hardware and Boyne Co-op or can be purchased from any other source. Please put only leaves in bags as the bags are not strong enough to hold sticks, sand or stones, and will tear upon lifting. Brush will not be picked up curbside, but may be brought to the North Boyne Compost Site. You may haul your own leaves, either bagged in biodegradable bags or unbagged, to the compost site on Robinson Street, open seven days a week.

  • IMMUNIZATION CLINIC with flu shots and other vaccines will be conducted by the Health Department of Northwest Michigan from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Boyne City Middle School Media Center. Ages 6 months and older are welcome. For payment, the clinic will accept Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield, McLaren Health Advantage, Tri-Care, Priority Health, cash, or a personal check - but no credit cards. Appointments are required; call 1-800-432-4121. Children/students must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Performing Arts Center
    The Agape Ringers, Chicago's premier handbell ensemble, will perform in concert at the Boyne City Performing Arts Center, 1025 Boyne Ave., at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18. The concert is made possible by the Glasgow family of Water Street Café, and the concert will feature works by Michael J. Glasgow, an internationally known handbell composer and arranger. The Agape Ringers are noted for beautifully orchestrated presentations of entertaining and varied music. The 16 musicians have a collective ringing experience of over 430 years, and perform on 76 bronze Malmark handbells and 73 Malmark Choirchimes.   • Free horseback trail rides for kids
    Owners Don Cowell and Becky Kuebler of Boyne Valley Equine, who provided carriage rides during Stroll the Streets and will begin offering horseback trail rides at Avalanche, would like to give back to the community. On Saturday, Oct.19, they will give guided horseback rides to the first 24 kids to sign up. This has been rescheduled from a previous rained-out date. Ride times are 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m. and they will be able to accommodate 6 riders during each time slot. Children age must be at least 7 and no older than 17. Children must be checked in by a parent/guardian; however the parents will not ride. This free ride is geared toward providing the experience to children who have never ridden or would not normally have the opportunity to ride.   • FREE CLINIC BENEFIT
    The Boyne City Eagles are sponsoring a benefit from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 to support the Boyne Area Free Clinic and help bring their building up to code. The Eagles Hall is located at 106 River St. Donations will be accepted for pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, baked beans and dessert. There will be entertainment from the Kowalske Family Band and TNT. A live auction will be held, along with a silent auction, ticket drawings, and 50/50 raffles. Additional donations are welcome and can be taken to the Eagles Hall, or contact Bruce Lawson at 582-9884.

  • KIDS COSTUME PARTY
    The ladies auxiliary of the Boyne City Eagles is hosting a children's Halloween Costume Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Eagles Hall, 102 River St. There will be games and goodies along with the costume contest for ages baby through 12 with prizes for each age group. Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the local food pantry.

    The Boyne City Firefighters Association will hold its free Haunted House at 5 p.m. Oct. 31 in the red barn next to the Boyne District Library on Park Street. Also nearby is the Trunk or Treat event at the Presbyterian Church.
