    Walk. Run. Cure. The 17th Annual Sue DeYoung/Judy Edger memorial Breast Cancer 5K Walk & Run. Saturday, May 7, 2011Monies raised go to the Circle of Strength Foundation to provide mammograms for women in need and to the Health Department for the free cervical cancer screening program in Charlevoix County. Registration begins in East Park in Charlevoix at 8 p.m. The 5K walk & Run begins at 9 a.m.

    Wild Edible Hike: Saturday, May 7th, 12 pm- Join the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center for our monthly potluck series! Bring a dish to pass if you can, but feel free to attend with a dish or without. The program begins at 1 pm with a hike on the Wagbo property to locate wild edibles! Learn to identify, harvest, and prepare springtime fare. We will also provide recipes to turn your harvest to a tasty dish! Free and open to the public.     Morel and Leek Walk: Sunday, May 8th, 10am to 12pm- Join ISLAND and the Wagbo Farm as we hike the Wagbo property in search of wild edible plants and spring mushrooms. We will cover what habitat to look for and identification of wild plants and mushrooms. Please remember to dress for the weather, wear hiking footwear, and bring a basket. Stick around to learn how to pickle leeks and preserve morels at a workshop to follow! $5-$10 suggested donation. No preregistration required. Located three miles south of East Jordan. Schools have made & designed the bowls that will be used for the luncheon. When you buy a bowl you get lunch free. The meal will be soup, bread, dessert & drink.

  • Back Porch Music @ the Front Porch Café . . .
    Don Judd with Gordon Howie & Norm Hausler. Don is an accomplished country music singer. He has been with the Northern Michigan Front Porch Pickers in the Boyne Area for 2 years. He has performed at Stroll the Streets in Boyne City, and sings monthly for the Boyne Area Senior Center. You will enjoy his old and new country songs. Don will be accompanied by Gordon Howie on percussion, vocals and ukulele, and Norm Hausler on bass and vocals. Come on out for a night of country music fun with Don Judd and Friends.

    Don and friends will share with the audience from 7 to 8:30 p.m. We will then have music and poetry “in the round”. Suggested donations for the evening are $5 individual / $10 family. Light refreshments are available at no extra charge. Come on in to share music and community in the warm and cozy atmosphere of the Front Porch Café, 9235 Main St., Ellsworth!
