FARMERS MARKET
The outdoor market runs from 8 a.m. to noon every Wednesday and Saturday, May through October.
It will feature more than 60 regular producer vendors, all local and all serving the best that northern Lower Michigan has to offer including seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs; gourmet baked goods and preserves; eggs and cheese; honey and maple syrup; meat, poultry and fish, potted annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, and cut flowers; plus a juried craft market with unique handmade items for your home or a special gift.
New this season is the creation of a “Friends of the Market” support group formed to support and help grow activities at the market. Volunteers are being recruited to help on market days and in planning special events. Lucy Hartlove is serving as chair of the newly formed group.
The Boyne City Farmers Market is a program of the Boyne City Main Street / Downtown Development Authority. It is governed by an 11-member committee consisting of vendors and community members. Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

July 4th celebration
An action-packed week of Boyne City 4th of July Festival fun begins this Sunday, July 1 with an All-Class Reunion for Boyne City Schools in Veteran’s Memorial Park, 207 N. Lake Street, from 1 to 3 p.m. On Tuesday, July 3, events will include the 35th Annual Waterside Arts & Crafts Show and Bouncers and More; an inflatable alley for kids. Main events on Wednesday, July 4 include the 34th Annual Independence Day Run at 7:30 a.m., the Grand Parade at 10 a.m. the second day of the Waterside Arts & Crafts show from 10 a.m to 5 p.m, and fireworks over Lake Charlevoix at 10:30 p.m. More children’s activities will be presented Thursday, July 5 and Saturday, July 7.

Evenings at the Gazebo
Boyne City's free Evenings at the Gazebo concert series takes the week off this Wednesday, July 4th. The 4th of July Festival will include music in Veterans Park from 1 to 7 p.m. The gazebo concerts will resume July 11 with Ann and Will Rowland performing at 6:30 p.m. in Old City Park, located at the corner of Park and River Streets. The annual concert series continues on Wednesdays from July 11 through Aug. 22. Boyne Thunder
Speed, excitement and fun returns to northern Michigan for the ninth annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run on July 13 and 14 in Boyne City. This year's event already includes 65 boats, 20 more than ever before. This unique boating event is a fund-raiser for Camp Quality and showcases high performance boats roaring through the waters of Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan on a 90-mile excursion. The day concludes with a dinner at Veterans Park where participants play their cards to see who has the best hand. The Poker Run, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Boyne City Marina, is the spectator highlight of the weekend but the event offers much more. From the moment the boats arrive to the time they depart Sunday there are activities galore in Boyne City, beginning with a Friday dinner for the boaters at the Veterans Park Pavilion. That same evening, downtown Boyne City comes alive for an expanded Stroll the Streets Friday evening. Also on Friday evening, a benefit auction for Camp Quality will take place with items on display starting at 6 p.m. and the auction beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday’s festivities include a Champagne Cruise for people to get an up-close view of the spectacular boats. Tickets for the Champagne Cruise are $75 and reservations can be made by calling 231.582.6222. The day’s activities continue at Sommerset Pointe for a reception beginning at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the reception are $10. The day’s events will conclude with an evening barbecue at Veterans Park starting at 7 p.m. The dinner is open to the public. Evenings at the Gazebo
Boyne City's free Evenings at the Gazebo concert series features Cairn to Cairn, an acoustic trio based in Ann Arbor at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. The group is comprised of flutist/vocalist Kelly McDermott, guitarist/singer Terry Farmer, and bassist/percussionist/vocalist Rob Crozier. Originally formed in 2007 as a classical flute and guitar duo, Cairn to Cairn soon expanded to begin an exploration into traditional folk music and beyond. The group is described as "an amalgamation of three distinct musical personalities," melding classical technique with rock ‘n’ roll, and folk songwriting. The weekly concert series continues on Wednesdays through Aug. 22 at the gazebo in Old City Park, corner of Park and River Streets. Perch Dinner
Area residents can support the proposed Boyne City-Charlevoix Recreation Trail and have a great dinner at the same time on Friday, July 20. The fund-raiser fish fry will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20 at the Eagles Hall, 106 River St., Boyne City. Dinner includes live entertainment, Carl Wehner's famous pan-fried perch, baked potato and dessert.The dinner is $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Trail volunteers will be on hand to accept donations via check or credit card. Event organizer Paula Larson said, "Come and celebrate our new trails in the Boyne Area. Your donation will help obtain the local matching funds necessary to receive the federal and state grants to construct these trails." Donations, raffle and auction proceeds will all go to the Trail Fund. Tickets are available at Local Flavor Book Store and the Boyne Area Chamber Office. Poochfest
Poochfest is coming to Boyne City Veterans Park on Saturday, July 21, sponsored by the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. Join us for fun and games at our (almost) annual Poochfest, Parade of Paws, and new this year, Wiener Dog Races. Walk begins at 8 a.m. and the rest of the events follow starting at 9 a.m. on the waterfront. Come and have a great time with your canine family members (and the two-legged members too!).

The Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce and the Boyne City Gazette are sponsoring a County Candidates Forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Community Room of the Boyne District Library. The Primary Election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7. Invited candidates include:
* County Prosecutor - Incumbent John Jarema and challenger Allen Telgenhof, both Republicans.
* County Commission District 1 - Incumbent Shirlene Tripp and challenger George Lasater, both Republicans.

Aten Place
Each summer since 1998, Aten Place sponsors a special afternoon matinee just for the 'single-digit' crowd. This year's Children's Matinee will present something entirely different, a ventriloquist. Vikki Gasco-Green has been entertaining children for over 20 years with her unique style of ventriloquism that features original characters that interact with the audience in a playful, light-hearted way. The Children's Matinee is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, and tickets for this special show are $3 for children and adults.

Dancin' in the Streets
SoBo, the South Boyne arts district, presents the 10th annual Dancin' in the Streets Thursday, July 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Sun Dogs will entertain just south of the corner of Lake and Main Streets. The event is sponsored by CindiFranco's cool stuff, Lake Street Market and other SOBO businesses. Organizer Cindi Mallin says, "Bring your chairs, grab a sandwich, put on your dancin' shoes and join us for an evening of fun," Dancin in the Streets will return Aug.30 when The Sun Dogs will be performing again.

ANTIQUE FLYWHEELERS SHOW
The 25th Annual Walloon Lake Antique Tractor-Engine and & Craft Show is in progress this weekend at the Flywheelers Show Grounds on U.S. Highway 131, 2.5 miles south of Walloon Lake. Admission is $5; children under 12 are free with an adult. The event features a Tractor Parade of Power at 2 p.m. each day, a large flea market, arts and crafts demonstrations and sales, working blacksmith, basket factory and veneer mill, old machinery in operation, camping, free parking, musical entertainment and food.

Run for their Lives
A 5k run/walk. You can run or walk with your best four-legged friend or with two-legged friends and family. It features a beautiful route along the Lake Charlevoix shoreline starting and ending in downtown Boyne City. There will be prizes for the first three finishers in each age group and a grand prize for the first male and female finishers (human and canine). Come and join us for a great race and a good time. Aten Place
Celtic-based, globally-infused, world-beat music, these all describe the music of AnDro, who will appear at Aten Place on Saturday, July 28th, at 7:30 p.m. This is an evening where you will hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains, Appalachian influences, Arabic rhythms, and African grooves all performed with joy and freshness.

Jack Diener memorial statue to be dedicated
A memorial to Jack Diener will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29 in Veterans Park. The Diener family invites the public to attend. Diener gave his life in combat during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on November 21, 2011. The bronze statue, known as "The fallen soldier" was selected by the Boyne City War Memorial Committee and will be placed at the Veteran's memorial site.

HISTORIC DISTRICT MEETING
A presentation on Boyne City's nomination to create a National Historic District for portions of downtown will be held July 30 at 7 p.m. at the Boyne District Library Community Room. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The proposed historic district includes most of the core of downtown Boyne City – the 100 and 200 blocks of Water and Lake streets, parts of Main Street between Lake and Park, and the 100 block of South Park – and the local Pearl Street Historic District.
