7pm at the Martha Wagbo Farm & Education Center in East Jordan. FREE, donations welcome, family-friendly. For more information contact the Wagbo Farm at 231-536-0333 or info@wagbo.org. Bring your favorite treats to roast and share in a potluck campfire and then join us in some campfire-related activities for all ages. Beverages and marshmallow sticks provided! Special guest and local storyteller, Jim Ribby, will be joining us to share entertaining tales, fables and yarns. This evening’s program celebrates the harvest season as well the upcoming holiday, Halloween, and will appeal to the young as well as those who are simply young at heart. Stories will begin at sunset, around 7:30pm. Come early for a self-guided farm tour and to say “hello” to the resident sheep, goats and chickens! Feel free to bring a story of your own or an instrument to share in some music-making after our “story hour.” In case of inclement weather, we will move to a sheltered space.

$5-$10 materials fee. Pre-registration encouraged. For more information contact the Wagbo Farm at 231-536-0333 or info@wagbo.org. Come play with natural dyes at this hands-on skillshare, hosted by local fiber artist, Jasmine Petrie. Bring your own fabric or clothing of natural origin (e.g. wool, cotton, silk, hemp, linen). Silk scarves (8”x54”) will be available for additional purchase. We will be dyeing using black walnut hulls, indigo, goldenrod and possibly more. We will explore shibori and other techniques, sharing knowledge, camaraderie and fun! Pre-mordanting fabric before the Meet-Up is optional but will produce more vivid results. No experience necessary. Accompanied older children interested in learning are welcome to participate. Dress in layers - we will be working in an unheated outdoor kitchen. Other recommended materials to bring:
bags or bucket for transporting wet goods
rubber gloves (knit gloves underneath provide extra warmth and heat protection)
mesh bag if you will be dyeing wool roving
a way to mark your goods to tell them apart (in the dye bath)
clamps, rubber bands, needle and thread, etc., for shibori (optional)
your favorite natural dye source (optional)
