Wednesday, April 22 all day. Earth Day!
As part of its "Think Green This Spring at Your Library" series, Boyne District Library will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 with special displays, sustainable living guidelines and giveaways. All overdue fines and copy fees paid on Earth Day will be put toward the purchase of a tree to be planted in Old City Park as part of the upcoming park renovation. "Don't worry if you don't owe any library fines," said Library Director Cliff Carey, "we will also accept donations for the tree planting." The library will also offer its reusable book bags to patrons on Earth Day at no charge. The bags are made from 100% recycled materials. Children will be given a small nature-related gift as well. Library visitors can make an Earth Day pledge toward "greener" living, and encourage others by posting their pledge on a special display in the library. "Using your local library fits perfectly with a green lifestyle," said Carey. "Whether it's books or computers, our resources are used and reused by many people. We continue to look for ways to reduce our consumption and be more environmentally conscious, including recycling and greater awareness in our purchasing practices." - Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. Flower Gardening: Nancy Wright and Carol Ross, Master Gardeners. Cleaning up and preparing your flower beds, and how to attract hummingbirds to your garden.
- Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m. All About Trees: Mark Contrucci, Mark C's Trees. How do you select the proper trees for your site? When is the best time to prune? Mark will share his expertise on how to plant and care for your trees.
- Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m. Rustic Gardening: Valerie Meeker, Boyne Valley Garden Club.
- Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m. Shopping Green: Jaime Jankowski, The Grain Train Natural Foods Market; and Jen Lewis, Boyne City Farmer's Market.

Businesses are invited to host a free booth to meet with job seekers at job fairs organized by Michigan Works this spring. On Tuesday, March 31, the Job Fair will be at Castle Farms on M-66 in Charlevoix and on Tuesday, April 7, the Job Fair will be at the Emmet County Fairgrounds Community Building. Both events are from 1 to 4 p.m. "This offers our business community the chance to collect applications and meet with candidates for job openings in a one-stop location to save both time and money," says Angie Ross, Business Liaison for Charlevoix and Emmet counties. Last year's job fair attracted more than 400 job seekers and 30 local employers who were hiring for more than 200 positions, full and part time, permanent and seasonal. Interested job seekers are asked to come to the event with copies of a current resume and be prepared to fill out applications and interview with employers on the spot. Businesses interested in one of the remaining free booth spaces should immediately contact Diane or Angie at 347-5150.
