  • FARMERS MARKET The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors to the Red Barn next to the library on Park Street. For the third consecutive year, the winter market continues every Saturday at that location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April.

    The cold weather and wet conditions at Veterans Park will delay the opening of the outdoor season for the Farmers Market. The market will continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday at the Red Barn next to the Boyne District Library through May 10th. "We hope to return to our outdoor home at Veterans Park on May 17th," says market manager Becky Harris, noting that the market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays once they move outdoors.
  • LET'S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • SENIOR CENTER DINNERS
    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • Boyne Valley Garden Club Plant Sale
    The Boyne Valley Garden Club Annual Plant Sale is now in progress and continues through May 22. Order forms are available online and at Boyne Avenue Greenhouse, Boyne City Ace Hardware, Local Flavor Bookstore, Boyne Co-op and Upsy Daisy Floral. You may also leave your checks and order forms at those places. This plant pale is a Garden Club fund-raiser and the money helps to buy the flowers that are planted all around Boyne City and make our community such a beautiful and welcoming place.   • Concord Academy
    Concord Academy Boyne is pleased to announce their spring musical, "The Wizard of Oz", opening April 30. This is the 75th anniversary of the MGM studios movie. Dorothy, played by Bethany Priest, lives in Kansas. During a tornado, she is transported to the Land of Oz where her house kills the Wicked Witch of the East much to the delight of the Munchkins. They help Dorothy get started on the yellow brick road that leads to Oz. On her way she meets Scarecrow (Josiah Schmidt), Tinman (Joshua Meicher), and the Lion (Noah Jergenson) who accompany her on a quest to find the wizard (Michael Balch). Other lead roles are the Wicked Witch of the West (Hannah Gerrie), the Jitterbug (Hannah Irwin), and Glinda, the beautiful Witch of the North, (Rachel Van Hoesen). The cast of 43 high school drama students and 8 elementary children showcase over 95 characters. The cast has been in rehearsal and designing sets and costumes since January. It is the largest cast that Concord has had in recent years. The show opens Wednesday, April 30, with an afternoon matinee at 12:30. May 1st through the 3rd are evening shows at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $10 for reserved seats at Concord Academy Boyne, located on Dietz road between Boyne City and Boyne Falls.   • BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    The Boyne City Middle School Drama Program presents Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2, plus a 2 p.m. show on Saturday, May 3. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students, available at the door. The show will be presented in the Performing Arts Center.

  • COUNTY TRANSIT SERVICE
    Due to moving our business and dispatch office to a temporary location, Charlevoix County Transit will be without regular phone, computer and radio service on Friday, May 2, and will have limited service Saturday, May 3. Because there will be little or no phone service available these days, they are requesting that passengers pre-schedule any rides needed for those days no later than 12 noon on Thursday, May 1. For ride cancellations while our regular phone service is down, call 231-373-2363. "We expect to be back up and running at full strength on Monday, May 5th," said transit manage Jill Drury. "We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding."

  • Buff Up Boyne
    After a long, cold and snowy winter it will soon be time to give Boyne City a shine. Buff Up Boyne, Boyne City's annual community-wide spring clean-up, is Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The Boyne City Main Street Program, organizer of the event, is calling all residents, civic organizations, and schools to lend their shovels, rakes and brooms to give Boyne City a shine during the annual cleanup. Volunteers will be sweeping, picking up trash and raking up debris from the city's sidewalks, parks, alleys, and along the waterfront. Volunteers are asked to meet at Sunset Park in downtown Boyne City next to the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce to sign in, get instructions on what areas need to be cleaned, and receive trash bags and gloves. All volunteers are asked to bring their own rakes, shovels and brooms.   • RAVEN HILL DISCOVERY CENTER
    23rd annual Spring Open House. On Sunday, May 4, from noon to 4 p.m, visitors can play in the museum, see the animals and explore outdoors. The Earth Tones Music Garden, Jurassic Park Walk, Schoolhouse, Treehouse and Ancient World exhibits will be open. There will be light refreshments and a short program at 1:30 to acknowledge the operations grant awarded by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts and to dedicate the new Trumpeter Swan exhibit made possible by the Petoskey Regional Audubon Society and taxidermist, Jim Haveman. Some of the art created by Boyne Falls middle school students participating in the CASH (Connecting Art Science History) for Kids program will be on display.

  • Memorial weekend DARE fun run
    The second annual Boyne City and East Jordan Police Departments D.A.R.E. 5K/1 mile Fun Run will be held Saturday, May 24, on Memorial Day weekend. The race will start and finish in Sunset Park, behind the Chamber office in downtown Boyne City. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to continue the D.A.R.E. programs in Boyne City and East Jordan schools. The D.A.R.E. program is presented to fifth grade students and focuses on drug and violence prevention, as well as promoting safe and responsible decision-making. The race starts at 8 a.m. with registration at 7 a.m.; you can also register from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 23 adjacent to the Chamber office at 28 S. Lake St. The first 100 registrants will receive an event t-shirt. Registration form is available online, at the police departments and at chamber offices in Boyne City and East Jordan.
