DDA / Main Street

Boyne area business owners and residents are invited to attend a public meeting focusing on the future of the Boyne City business district on Wednesday, Aug, 26, at 6 p.m. in the Boyne District Library Community Room. The meeting is sponsored by the Boyne City Main Street Program / Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The meeting's purpose is to seek community input on the goals, priorities and projects of the Main Street / DDA for the next several years. In 1994 the City of Boyne City created the DDA to help revitalize and enhance the community's central business district. In 2003 the DDA joined the Michigan Main Street Program and has been known since that time as the Main Street / DDA program, which includes the central business district and the commercial district on North Lake Street from downtown to the public marina boat launch. Since it was formed in 1994, much has been accomplished by the DDA including:

All these projects were included in the DDA's original development plan and many of the original goals have been accomplished. The Main Street / DDA board is now in the process of amending its development plan for the future. The plan will not raise property taxes. It will allow the community to continue to direct tax dollars to enhance our downtown. In addition, through the Main Street / DDA the community has received more than $800,000 in grants for projects within the DDA district in recent years. The purpose of the August 26 meeting is to receive the community's input on the draft development plan, which outlines the goals, priorities and types of projects the Main Street / DDA hopes to accomplish in the years ahead. The projects are categorized as near term (2009-2012), short term (2013-2018) and mid term (2019-2024). The goal is to complete projects and create programs to enhance and strengthen our community. Some of the projects include:

The August 26 meeting will be led by Beckett and Raeder, a Michigan planning firm with a reputation of excellence throughout the state.
