  • Farmers Market moves indoors
    The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors for the month of November, and the debut last Saturday was a major success, More than 700 shoppers visited the 13 vendors in the market, located at 126 Water St. The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, offering seasonal produce, meats, cheese, baked and canned items, honey, maple syrup, and other goodies you've come to expect from the market during the month of November. The second annual Holiday Farmers Market will also be held in the indoor Water Street location on Wednesday, Nov. 25; you can pre-order fresh turkeys and pies for Thanksgiving. The Farmers Market is a project of the Boyne City Main Street Program.   • Community Christmas expects greater need this year
    The Boyne Area Community Christmas Baskets program is expecting that the need for assistance will be greater than ever this year. Non-perishable, unwrapped food, toys, games, books, clothing and blankets may be dropped off at the Early Childhood Education Center on Pine Street from Dec. 1 through 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Checks may be made payable to Boyne Area Community Christmas, c/o Treasurer Eleanor West, 915 Robinson St. #15, BoyneCity 49712. Thos eligible for baskets may pick them up Dec. 18 from 3 to 6 pm.. at the Early Childhood Center gym. For further information call Ruth Witenski at 5882-3152 or Nancy Hosmer at 582-71165.

  • BENEFIT FOR GENE FARLEY
    A chili dinner benefit fund-raiser for Gene Farley, who is recovering from hear surgery, will be held to 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at the Boyne City Eagles Hall, 106 River St. A Silent Auction will be held and Northern Nights will entertain. "Gene and Gail are always the first to step up when others need a little help," organizers say. "Lets all pitch in. See you on Sunday for chili. He's mending from his heart surgery but it's going to be a long road."

    Musicians and music lovers are invited to join the fun as Gail Gerrie and Master fiddler John Richey host the Boyne Sunday Session featuring Celtic and folk tunes and Songs at Local Flavor bookstore at 125 Water Street. from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 17. Musicians are asked to bring their own stools or chairs. The session is held the first and third Sunday of every month. There is no charge for this family-friendly musical event that features some of our region's finest Irish, folk, bluegrass and old-time musicians. Details . . .
