  • EAST JORDAN DDA . . .
Once again it is time to think of Spring Flowers and the City of East Jordan DDA Flower Boxes on Main Street. Last year you did a great job of planting and maintaining a "Flower Box" on Main Street. They looked great. The time, energy and money invested in them was greatly appreciated by everyone. Are you willing and able to adopt a planter this year? Do you want the same one as last year? We hope that all spring planting can take place by Thursday, May 24th, which is the Thursday prior to Memorial Day Weekend. If you are interested in planting and maintaining a "Flower Box" please contact Tom Teske at (231) 536-4428 or mobile (734) 604-6872

The East Jordan High School Girls Soccer Team needs help meeting their funding goal. Due to budget cuts, in order to have a team this year, they needed to raise the funds to do it. The team was blessed with two large donations, but still needs to raise $1,000 by the end of the school year to pay for their season. A fundraising Dinner and Auction will be held Wednesday, May 9 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Murray's Restaurant in East Jordan. The team will serve as hostesses, bus tables and offer a silent auction. In honor of her home country Murray's will be offering traditional Chilean Soccer Match Fare including Beef Empanadas, a Chilean Hot Dog and Carbonata Stew for dinner and Rice Pudding and Sopapillas for dessert. For each of these menu items purchased, Murray's will donate a portion to the team. The soccer team will also be running a Car, Cans and Cookie Fundraiser later in the month. This fundraiser will include a car wash and cookie sale by donation and also a can drive. The team is also accepting sponsorships. • Back Porch Coffeehouse . . .
The last Back Porch Coffeehouse for the season will be held Saturday, May 12th at the Charlevoix Senior Center building, and will feature Kelly Shively and Norm Hausler! Kelly Shively and Norm Hausler are a pair of seasoned musicians who have played with many Northern Michigan musicians and also on their own, as solo singer/instrumentalists. Kelly brings her original songs of family and home, along with her interpretations of traditional mountain and Celtic music. Norm’s deep baritone voice lends itself to country classics and provides a wonderful harmony for Kelly’s soprano vocals. Norm is enjoying learning to accompany Kelly with “mountain modal” tunings on his guitar, while Kelly surprises with turns on her fiddle, harp, banjo and a variety of other instruments. You never know what tunes and arrangements these two will offer...but you are sure to smile and hum along.

Suggested donations are $5/person, $10/ family- all donations are for the scheduled performers. Light refreshments are available at no charge… cookie donations are always welcome! The musical evening is for all ages. Kelly and Norm will play from 7 to 8:30 p.m., followed by a circle jam session- musicians and poets of all ages are welcome to join in.

Directions to the Senior Center building: From US-31 on the south end of Charlevoix, turn west onto Carpenter St. (between the Pizza Hut and Flap Jack Shack). Continue .7 mile on Carpenter to the corner of Norwood Rd. The Senior Center is the large white building on the left of the intersection. Parking is available both in front and behind the Center. The facility is fully accessible. Contact: 231-622-2944. Please respond to this number or this e-mail if you have received this message in error or wish to be removed from our contact list. We hope you can join us for another warm evening of community and music, and we hope you will share this information with others who may be interested.
