If you have a closet full of gently used coats, your local Girl Scouts will find them a home for someone in need...Girl Scout troop # 362 is presently doing a coat drive ....looking for gently used, clean coats for citizens of Charlevoix County who may be in need. Coats will be distributed for free to families of need through "Tabitha's Closet" located at the Assembly of God Church in Charlevoix. Locations to drop off coats... Mitten Trees will be located in our three local banks, Charlevoix State Bank, Huntington Bank and Bay Winds Federal Credit Union. Trees will be going up on Monday, November 28 and will continue until December 14. Please don't feel limited to mittens only - hats, scarves, socks and slippers are also welcome. All items will be distributed by Care & Share.

Glow in the Dark Play Extravaganza. This fun filled play is perfect for the whole family from age 1 to 101. The performance will be the final exam performance of the East Jordan High School Theer Team including our exchange student from Chile and an amazing drum solo by 3 precision students from the East Jordan High School Band. Saturday at 7:00 PM in the East Jordan Community Auditorium. Entry by donation.

Artist Gathering will continue during the winter - each Wednesday. They will meet at the Jordan River Art Center in the lower gallery. Fresh flowers will be provided each week. All artist wishing to be together to participate art are welcome. There is no fee or preregistration. On occasion mini-lessons may be presented be someone attending. Some videos may be shared. The JRAC art library is available for use. When the East Jordan School is closed so is the art center. It should be noted that the summer plein aire scheduled has already been planned. The show starts at 7:00 PM at the Community Auditorium featuring all local talent. Advanced tickets on sale now at the Chamber office, by calling 231-350-0751 and downtown on Friday night during the Main Street activities. Tickets also available at the High School box office the night of the show. There will also be a silent auction before the show.
Wild Game Potluck - Saturday, 6 pm - Come out to the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center for our third annual wild game potluck! Join us at the Wagbo farmhouse at 6pm and share in the bounty of northern Michigan foods. Bring a dish of wild or local food to pass if you can, but it's not required for attendance. The potluck wraps up with a showing of the film The Complete Angler at 7 pm. Set amidst the beauty and tranquility of Irish and English waterways, this visual poem celebrates the joys of nature and literature, of solitude and beauty and the elegant art of fly fishing. Charlevoix Senior Center, 7:00 p.m. Our musical guests for the evening will be Peacemeal String Band (Dale and Maureen Scott) with special guest John Richey. Peacemeal String Band has provided a variety of string music to Michigan audiences for the past 25 plus years. Featuring multi-instrumentalists Maureen and Dale Scott, the ensemble mixes Appalachian style old-time fiddle, claw hammer banjo, hammered dulcimer, tenor guitar, 6-string guitar, and harmonica with vocal harmonies. Add John Richey with his multi-faceted fiddle playing and energetic vocals, and the musical fun multiplies! The featured performers will share their music from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Following the scheduled performers, we will have a “circle jam session”. Suggested donations for the evening are $5/individual, $10/family. All donations are for the scheduled performer(s). Light refreshments are available at no additional charge.
Directions to the Charlevoix Senior Center: From US-31 (Bridge St.), turn west on Carpenter St. (between the Pizza Hut and Flap Jack Shack). The East Jordan 6th Grade class will be holding a Washington D.C. trip fundraiser. Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the East Jordan Middle School from 5-7 PM. Ticket price is $6.00 single ticket and $20.00 family ticket. There will also be a Silent Auction and Bake Sale. Tickets can be purchased from any 6th Grade student or at the door.

Wassailing Winter Celebration- Saturday, January 21st, 6pm- Join the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center for a potluck and winter celebration. Wassaling is an ancient rural tradition of toasting to the health of an orchard in hopes that a bountiful crop will ensue the following year. A community celebration, Wassailing is done on a January night beginning with a feast and libations, followed by a short procession to the orchard where toasts are made and torches lit. Bring a sled! Students will learn a technique to make pins, pendants and /or earring using an imprint technique developed b Julie Picarello. the technique involves layering contrasting colors of clay, imprinting shapes and holes into the clay then making slices that will yield a multicolored surface with texture with finished pieces to take home. On January 28 and February 25 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., experience the solitude of the wilderness as you snowshoe by torchlight at Camp Daggett. Bearcub Outfitters of Petoskey has once again graciously sponsored this family-fun event. Afterward, come in from the cold for a cup of hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies and to warm-up by the crackling fire in camp's beautiful main lodge. Buy raffle tickets for great Bearcub products with all proceeds going to Camp Daggett. Admission is free, donations are encouraged, and snowshoes are available for all ages!
