    The Front Porch Cafe celebrates its first anniversary with a Picnic Dinner and Concert featuring national recording artist, Jill Jack on Friday evening, September 4, under the pavilion in the new Ellsworth Community Park. From 6:00 to 7:00 pm a Picnic dinner will be served featuring Brats, Hot Dogs, Roast Corn and Beverage. At 7:00 Jill Jack performs! The Picnic dinner and concert are by free will offering. Please bring your lawn chairs and blankets to be comfortable. In case of rain, the dinner and concert will be moved indoors to the Banks Township Hall. For more information, please call 231-588-2000.   • Royal Craft Show at Castle Farms
    On Labor Day Weekend the grounds and buildings of Castle Farms will be the host to one of Michigan's most prestigious craft shows and will feature only the finest arts and crafts that can be found. Admission is $3 per person with children under 12 free. Food is available at a nominal charge. Pets are not allowed. The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Self-guided tours are available for the rest of the Castle and Gardens at $4 each.     Once again the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce and Jordan Valley Floral (401 Water Street) are co-sponsoring and celebrating "Good Neighbor Day" on Wednesday, September 9,2009 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.

    Receive a dozen free flowers with your non-perishable food donations for the East Jordan Care and Share. Just keep one flower for yourself and give the remaining flowers to someone else who will do the same until they are all distributed! Meet someone new-spread goodwill- Tell someone you know how much you care!! Welcome bags will once again be given out during this event. Reach out to this local customer base- bring in you coupons, tokens, etc. to the Chamber office by noon on September 8, to be included in the event.

    The Friends of the Jordan welcomes all to the Fifth Annual Celebration of the Natural Wonders of the Jordan Valley held Saturday September 19, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Jordan River Watershed Center. Featured will be an exhibit of the more than 90 photographs entered in the Visions of the Valley Photography Contest with awards presentation to the winning photographers. Mike Schlitt of Charlevoix, a renowned nature photographer, was the judge for the photo contest and was impressed with the quality of the photographs entered. In addition to the photo exhibit, visitors will enjoy delicious refreshments catered by Allison MacKay of East Jordan. Lilting harp music by Jan Goodwin will provide a lovely backdrop to the exhibit. Awards in excess of $1200 will be presented for the winning photographs. Sponsors for the photography contest include the Grand Prize sponsored by Charlevoix State Bank, Viewer's Choice by Bay Winds Federal Credit Union. The Youth award is sponsored by East Jordan Iron Works and President's Choice by East Jordan Plastics. 10 additional awards have been sponsored by the Bier Art Gallery, Stacey Chipman Counseling, John and Phyllis Dedoes, East Jordan Family Health Center, Glens Market, in memory of Dr. Greg Klinker, Jordan Valley Animal Clinic, Spicy Bob's Italian Express, Floyd and Nancy Wright, and VFW Post 7580 and VFW Auxiliary. The sponsors provide the financial awards for the winning photographers and help fund the event and the calendar. Plan to join your friends and neighbors for a delightful afternoon at the Jordan River Watershed Center, 101 Union Street in East Jordan. Awards will be presented at 4:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public.

    The 14 winning photographs have been compiled into the 2010 calendar that is sold as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Jordan. Calendars will be available for sale at this event and from FOJ Board members, can be purchased at the Jordan Valley Animal Clinic or through the website www.friendsofthejordan.org. The price of the calendar is $15 or 2 for $25. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar support the activities of the Friends of the Jordan.

    Charlevoix County CROP Walk to be held Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 am. Come rain or shine! Area residents are gearing up to join in the Charlevoix County CROP Walk, Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 am. The six-mile walk will begin at three Charlevoix County locations, including Elm Point in East Jordan, Whiting Park in Boyne City and Charlevoix Middle School in Charlevoix. Each location will conclude the walk at the Congregational Church in Ironton where David Phillips will provide lunch for all walkers. This year, we are walking in memory of Dorothy Stoel of Charlevoix. Both Dorothy Stoel and David Phillips were responsible for founding CROP Walk in Charlevoix.

    - Wednesday, September 30, 2009. East Jordan Community Auditorium 7 P.M. This is a VERY IMPORTANT meeting for everyone who has a connection to East Jordan, business owners,residents, community leaders, etc. I have been able to arrange for Hugh Conklin-Boyne City Main Street Manager, Jim Bauman-Boyne City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and Brittney Hoszkiw who helped kick off the successful Main Street Program of Scottville (population 1200), as well as two representatives from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to explain the Main Street program.
