  • Evenings at the Gazebo
    The Big Band and Wind Orchestra from Angelaschule, Osnabruck, Germany will perform on July 1. The orchestra includes 51 young people from ages 12 to 20. The concert is part of the Blue Lake International Exchange Program.

  • 4TH OF JULY FESTIVAL
    The Boyne City 4th of July Festival draws thousands of people to town for a giant parade at 10 a.m., evening fireworks plus a dozen other activities. Highlights include the 32nd Annual Waterside Arts and Crafts Show, 2-mile and 10k running races, a wacky raft race and duck race in the Boyne River, lots of food, live music and children's games. The festival is centered in Veterans Memorial Park on the shore of Lake Charlevoix. There will be live music in the park all day topped off by "Stroll the Streets" from 6 to 9 p.m. July 3 and 4 with at least 6 bands, musicians and entertainers performing on the streets of downtown.

  • Judy Harrison returns for Gazebo concert
    Judy Harrison and High Impact will perform at the weekly Evenings at the Gazebo concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Old City Park. The free concert series continues on Wednesday evenings through Aug. 26. Judy Harrison and High Impact is a Traverse City-based high-energy country music band that has been together since 1997. Bring your lawn chairs, but leave your dogs at home. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to St. Matthew's Catholic Church. We are able to present these free concerts thanks to donations accepted at each concert and the generosity of many local sponsors. This week's sponsors are Huff Pharmacy, Arch & Trish Wright.   • CMU Summer Theatre returns to Boyne City
    Central Michigan University Summer Theatre is taking its shows on the road and will stop in Boyne City again this July 9-11. The series will include three productions, all comedies, at 8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the Boyne Area Chamber (231-582-6222) and Local Flavor Bookstore and Country Now & Then.

  • Boyne Thunder returns
    The roar of thunder returns to Boyne City for the sixth annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run on July 10 and 11. The event, which started as a fund raiser for Camp Quality, has grown into a premier boating event for northwest Lower Michigan and now attracts some of the most awe-inspiring, high performance boats ever to churn the waters of Lake Charlevoix and northern Lake Michigan. The event, a Main Street initiative, has raised more than $140,000 for Camp Quality, a camp for children suffering from cancer. Downtown Boyne City will again celebrate Boyne Thunder with "Stroll the Streets," an evening of music, and boat and car displays on Friday, July 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Also that evening, there is a benefit dinner and auction beginning at 6 p.m. in Veterans Park. Tickets are $50 and are available at the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce office. The poker run begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, with boaters making stops at Beaver Island, Harbor Springs, Petoskey, and Bay Harbor before returning to Horton Bay for the last card stop.

  • Cartoon Network's Get Animated Tour coming to Boyne Mt.
    The Cartoon Network's Get Animated Tour is coming to Boyne Mountain on Sunday, July 19 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free and is designed to motivate, energize and educate kids’ ages 6 to 14 about healthy living choices by using the power of Cartoon Network’s shows and characters. Kids will have the opportunity to engage in physical activities that promote the message of staying active and making smart nutritional choices. Activities include a 26’ high climbing wall, soccer challenge, bicycle race, basketball drills, a filming tent were kids can show off their ball handling skills on camera, Crayola tent with 3D chalk and blackboards and interactive HOPSports program.   • Rob Johnson Blues Band featured at next Gazebo concert
    The Rob Johnson Blues Band, a Stroll the Streets favorite, will perform at the next Evenings at the Gazebo concert July 22. Visit the band’s Myspace page to hear their music. The free concert series continues on Wednesday evenings through Aug. 26 in Old City Park at the corner of River and Park Streets. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to St. Matthew's Catholic Church.   • Walloon Lake Antique Tractor Engine and Craft Show
    The 22nd Annual Walloon Lake Antique Tractor-Engine and & Craft Show is planned for July 23-26 at the Flywheelers Show Grounds on U.S. Highway 131 between Walloon Lake and Boyne Falls. Opening ceremonies are held at 9 a.m. and the Parade of Power tractor parade is held at 2 p.m. daily; July 23 is pre-show setup day and some exhibits may not be operating completely. Admission is a $5 donation per day, and children under 12 are free with an adult. The event features a large flea market, arts and crafts demonstrations and sales, working blacksmith, basket factory and veneer mill, old machinery in operation, camping, free parking, a fashion show, musical entertainment and food. A children's garden tractor safari will be held Saturday evening.

  • Boyne District Library Friends and Family Fun Fair!
    It’s coming soon. There will be clowns, balloons, live music, a real fire truck, games, prizes, creative crafts, snacks, drinks, gently used children’s books for sale, Piecemakers Quilt raffle and fun for all. Mark your calendar for Friday, July 24 from 6-8 p.m. on the beautiful grounds and street of the Boyne District Library. Game tickets will sell for 50 cents, and quilt raffle tickets will be $1. The quilt is made and provided by the Piecemakers Quilt Club; tickets are available at the library, CindiFranco’s and the Farmers Market. All proceeds will support the Boyne Reads program for library patrons. This great entertainment for the family is part of the Boyne City Stroll the Streets program. See you there.

  • Fiber Arts Festival
    Visit the Fiber Arts Festival at Castle Farms, Charlevoix's historic landmark, and learn more about the age-old fiber arts that are making a comeback in a big way. The festival is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, from 10 to 4. The festival features hand-made goods including sweaters, original lace shawls, hats, mittens, soaps, rugs, knitting accessories, painted yarn, alpaca products, and much more. You'll also be able to visit live animals; enjoy demonstrations in weaving, spinning, natural dyeing and felting; watch sheep dogs at work; see how sheep are shorn.   • Avalanche Park public input meeting
    A public input meeting to review and comment on preliminary plans for Avalanche Park will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at City Hall. The City of Boyne City is organizing this meeting to discuss the public's interests regarding the ultimate proposed scope of development for this unique park property. Representatives from the City and the consulting firm Mark Robinson & Associates will be present to lead discussion and receive further input regarding master plan development.   • Children of the World Sing in Harmony
    Children’s choirs from Czechoslovakia and Kalamazoo will combine for an 8 p.m. concert on Wednesday, July 29 at the Boyne City Performing Arts Center. The concert is part of the Children of the World in Harmony Festival that will be presented in several Northern Michigan communities. Choirs and dance ensembles from Mongolia, China, Mexico, Kenya, the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, and Vietnam will be represented. Performing in Boyne City will be the Rolnicka Praha Children’s Choir and the Kalamazoo Children’s Choir. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students.   • Dancin’ in the Streets
    SoBo, the newly named South Boyne business district, presents the 5th annual Dancin’ in the Streets Thursday, July 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Acoustic Stew will entertain just south of the corner of Lake and Main Streets. The event is sponsored by CindiFranco’s, Lake Street Market and Eyes on Main. Organizer Cindi Mallin says, "Bring your chairs, grab a sandwich, put on your dancing’ shows and join us for an evening of fun," Dancin in the Streets will return Aug. 27 when The Sun Dogs will be performing.
